Position Overview
The Head – Fire & Safety will lead the development, implementation, and governance of a world class fire and safety framework across all SCS warehouses and operational sites in India.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fire Safety Governance & Compliance
Ensure complete adherence to all national and state fire safety regulations, including NBC, IS Codes, Fire NOC requirements, and statutory standards.
Develop, implement, and periodically update fire safety policies, SOPs, and emergency response plans for all SCS sites.
Coordinate with government fire departments and regulatory bodies for audits, certifications, renewals, and inspections.
Maintain robust documentation, compliance records, and statutory approvals across all warehouses.
2. Fire Protection Systems Management
Oversee installation, commissioning, maintenance, and inspection of critical firefighting systems—hydrants, sprinklers, alarms, detectors, pumps, extinguishers, and evacuation infrastructure.
Conduct regular site audits to identify fire risks, system gaps, and improvement opportunities.
Approve fire safety designs, layouts, fire load calculations, and system specifications for new sites or expansions.
3. Pan‑India Monitoring & Standardization
Supervise and guide fire & safety representatives stationed at each warehouse, ensuring performance, training, and compliance.
Establish a scalable monitoring framework encompassing audit scoring, compliance dashboards, and action‑tracking mechanisms.
Drive uniformity in fire safety standards, practices, and implementation across all SCS locations nationwide.
4. Training, Awareness & Preparedness
Train warehouse teams and designated safety personnel in fire prevention, firefighting techniques, emergency response, evacuation protocols, and first aid.
Conduct periodic mock drills, evacuation simulations, and surprise readiness checks.
Develop training materials, manuals, and digital learning modules for ongoing capability building.
Coordinate with the BCP team to ensure organizational crisis readiness.
5. Risk Assessment, Incident Investigation & CAPA
Conduct Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) for all warehouses, covering storage patterns, fire load, electrical systems, emergency exits, and structural risks.
Lead investigations for fire incidents, near misses, and safety deviations; perform detailed root cause analysis.
Recommend and monitor implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to mitigate recurrence.
Develop and maintain Emergency Preparedness & Response Plans (EPRP) at all sites.
6. Strategic Leadership
Advise the Divisional CEO on fire safety strategies, capital investment needs, technology adoption, and long‑term risk mitigation.
Build and manage relationships with OEMs, consultants, vendors, and audit agencies.
Champion safety culture, discipline, and awareness across all warehouse operations.
Support Internal Audit team during audits across locations.
Develop and refine audit checklists, scoring frameworks, and risk metrics.
Lead closure of audit non‑conformities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering / Fire Technology / Safety Engineering OR a recognized Diploma in Fire & Safety.
12–20 years of experience in fire safety within warehousing, logistics, FMCG, manufacturing, retail supply chain, or similar large‑scale environments.
Proven knowledge of NBC 2016/2020, IS Codes, FM/UL standards, and local fire laws.
Experience managing multi‑location safety operations across India.
Strong leadership, crisis management, training, and communication skills.
